Caregiving is a difficult job - no one doubts that. One of the strategies often suggested for relieving stress is to do something you enjoy. I think what many people forget is that when you've been caregiving for awhile, you may forget what brings you happiness.

Leukemia Lymphoma Society Names Girl of the Year

Shaylah Saylor is named the Leukemia Lymphoma Society's Girl of the Year. The 11 year old girl has always dreamed of recording an album and Saturday, February 27, she got her wish. A group of women raising money to find a cure for leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's Disease and myeloma and to improve the quality of life for patients and families who battle cancer helped organize the recording to honor Shaylah for her courage

Filmmaker Creates New Cancer Movie

Today, I have invited Mike Moraz, an independent filmmaker to share about his current project. “I am in the process of producing a feature film called, Face the Sun. It follows a young family confronting a diagnosis of breast cancer. I started the project after losing a close friend to the illness at 34. She had been told not to worry, ‘You’re much to young for breast cancer.’ The story is not hers, but it shares many characteristics with her and countless thousands of women throughout the world.

Programs Honor Black History Month

All people touched by blood cancer, and in honor of Black History Month, I'm shining the spotlight on some special programs specifically designed to reach the African American community.

In Memphis, the Mid-South Branch of the Gateway Chapter has partnered with the Church Health Center and the Church Health Center Wellness, which helps provide health services to uninsured, underinsured, low income and low literacy African Americans. The chapter is also partnering with several local African American churches as well.

Ski4Life" ski and snowboard marathon event

March 6th, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society will be holding a 12 hour "Ski4Life" ski and snowboard marathon fundraiser at Ski Roundtop in Lewisberry, PA.
Ski4Life participants enjoy 12 hours on the slopes with live bands, an evening bonfire, great food, and the camaraderie with other skiers and snowboarders that can only be felt when supporting a great cause such as curing blood cancers and supporting local cancer patients and their families

Don't forget! IHOP gives away free pancakes today

IHOP gives away free pancakes as part of its annual fundraiser for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Customers who take advantage of the free food are encouraged to make a donation to the charity. The giveaway takes place from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. today.
To celebrate National Pancake Day, each year International House of Pancakes (IHOP) offers a FREE short stack of pancakes to all guests visiting participating restaurants. Each year, LLS volunteers and IHOP staff come together to collect donations for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society's mission in lieu of payment for pancakes.

Caring Bridge Not Just For Children

Many people have seen Caring Bridge’s lovely websites in which family members can updates friends and loved ones around the world on the emotional and physical conditions of a sick family member. Until recently, I thought it was just for children. A friend of mine has an adult son who was very sick, and he and his wife struggled to balance work, hospital trips, and the literally hundreds of calls and emails to see how he was doing.
