More Garlic, Less Cancer?

In a small study published in a recent issue of the journal Analytical Biochemistry, results suggested that the more garlic people consumed, the lower the levels of the potential carcinogenic process were.
The research is all about body processes associated with nitrogen-containing compounds, scientists say. These processes include nitrosation, or the conversion of some substances found in foods or contaminated water into carcinogens.
“What we were after was developing a method where we could measure in urine two

Jumping the shark cartilage

It's a seminal moment in TV history: The Fonz, in leather and water-skis, jumping over a shark. The producers of Happy Days could not have known that they were launching what would become a widely understood metaphor signaling last-ditch desperation.

Ostensibly this should have nothing to do with cancer but immediately it does. I dislike when people say that a lymphoma diagnosis is a "lucky" one, there is no lucky cancer diagnosis.

Leukemia & Lymphoma Society CEO Goes Totally Baldacious

Still fundraising to meet his $50,000 goal, The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society President and CEO, John Walter, showed just how serious he was about showing solidarity with cancer patients by "shaving one for the team today."
Do you know someone with cancer? Have you wondered how you can show your support? Here’s a great way to demonstrate your love:

Go Totally Baldacious. When you “Shave one for the Team” you show your solidarity with cancer patients, raise awareness about cancer, and help raise money for The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

Pepsi Refresh and Cancer Support

I mentioned last week that Rihanna was trying to get Pepsi funds to support a bone marrow support group, but I am pleased to announce that the American Cancer Society did receive a hunk of change.
Drew Brees won the NFL Pepsi refresh and a $100,000 grant for the ACS Hope Lodge The money will go towards improving the living facilities of the Patrick F. Taylor Hope Lodge in New Orleans, which provides cancer patients and their caregivers with a free place to stay while they are receiving treatment away from home. There are currently 29 Hope Lodge facilities throughout the country.

Soft Drinks Increase Cancer Risk

Say it ain’t so. Soft drink consumption may increase risk of pancreatic cancer - Consuming two or more soft drinks per week increased the risk of developing pancreatic cancer by nearly twofold compared to individuals who did not consume soft drinks, according to a report in Cancer Epidemiology, Biomarkers & Prevention, a journal of the American Association for Cancer Research.

Rihanna Pledges Support to Bone Marrow Organization

I wasn'the only one moved by the plight of six year old Jasmina Anema, the little girl who died of cancer last week. During her brief life, she inspired thousands of people to get registered as bone marrow donors and she had the opportunity to meet President Obama and pop singer Rihanna.

Rihanna is continuing her support of bone marrow donations in the wake of Jasmina's death, and now she wants Pepsi's help to do it.

The Safe Patient Project

It's just nasty: an estimated 1.7 million people in the US go to a hospital to get well but wind up getting a brand new infection. For almost 100,000 of those people, it will be the last infection they ever get.

This makes the March 2010 issue of Consumer Reports a must-have for all cancer patients and their loved ones because of its examination of the harm done by infections arising from a central line.
