World's Largest Chinese Whisper Chain for Lymphoma

746 people from around the world made history today by uniting to break the Guinness World Record for the largest "Chinese whisper" chain - a record that previously stood at 718 people. With the aim of raising awareness of lymphoma, participants from 59 countries stood side-by-side to pass the message that "there is new hope for lymphoma patients". The record coincided with the 9th International Conference of Malignant Lymphoma (ICML) being held this week in Lugano, Switzerland.



NHL Survivor hits 3 year mark

In his driveway four years ago, Joseph Khoury discovered he couldn't move his legs or get out of his car. Only 24 years old then, he had no idea he was stricken with non-Hodgkin's lymphoma. "We had a lot of red flags of cancer: not sleeping, muscle pains, sweating when he slept. But we just thought he was out of shape and overweight," said his wife Tracie, a chiropractor, who at the time was finishing school.

Currently they are auctioning an authentic, autographed one-of-a-kind NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series official victory lane hat was worn by Evernham Motorsports driver Kasey Kahne in the winner’s circle at Richmond International Raceway just two weeks ago on May 14th. Hodgkin's Gives Nursing Student Perspective

Angie cole was just about to graduate from nursing school when she learned she has Hodgkin's Lymphoma. She underwent 4 months of chemo and is now undergoing radiation therapy. She was married 18 days after diagnosis. Her goal is now to become an oncology nurse practitioner. You can read more about her here.

Tony Danza Raises Money for Lymphoma

Who knew?? Tony Danza presented a $3.1 million check to The (US) Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) raised through Olive Garden's annual Pasta For Pennies program by more than one million students throughout the country.



O'Neill Leaves Job To Care For Wife

Martin O'Neill, captain of the Celtic football (US: soccer) club and former Northern Ireland captain, is stepping down from his job to take care of his wife Geraldine who has had a recurrence of lymphoma.



What about the brothers & sisters?

When a child gets cancer, often their brother(s) and/or sister(s) have a pretty hard time also. What can be done? There are some good books to explain what is going on. There is also a new organization called SuperSibs! which claims to help.

Childhood Hodgkins Survivor Scales Everest

Sean Swarner, a survivor of Hodgkin's lymphoma at age 13 and also Askin's sarcoma a year later, has scaled several mountains including recently Mount Everest. He is setting his sights on becoming only the fifth person in history to accomplish the so-called "adventure grand slam." This involves climbing to the top of the tallest mountain on each of the earth's seven continents and trekking to both the north and south poles.



Star Launches Teen Cancer Website

Australian popstar Delta Goodrem, noted in a previous entry, has helped to launch a website for teenagers with cancer. The former British TV series "Neighbours" actress was diagnosed with Hodgkins lymphoma in 2003.



She and other celebrities were recently beside the Thames River in London to release 180 balloons, representing the number of teenagers who are diagnosed with cancer every month.



Good News Comes in Twos: Andre is in Remission

I wrote in a previous blog that Andre had started a blog about his Hodgkin's experience. News out now is he's in remission and looking to restart his college studies. Way to go!
