The 2012 Pediatric Oncology Award this year will honor St. Jude Children's Research Hospital physician Ching-Hon Pui, M.D. for his outstanding work in the field of childhood leukemia.

The Pediatric Oncology Award is given by the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) to recognize one researcher's contributions towards cancer research and patient treatments annually.

Dr. Pui is an internationally renowned blood cancer expert who has dedicated his life's work to the fight against childhood leukemia. He, along with his colleagues at St. Judes, is credited for innovations that have made cure rates for childhood leukemia go from single-digit percentages to upwards of 90 percent, in particular for the treatment of acute lymphoblastic leukemia (ALL), the most common of all childhood cancers.

The award will be presented to Dr. Pui in June at the 2012 ASCO Annual Meeting in Chicago.
