LLS calls on patients, practitioners to press Congress on drug shortage

The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is calling on all concerned patients and health care practitioners to contact their Congress members to press upon them the urgency of the current drug shortage.

At least five major drugs used to treat hematologic cancers-- Daunorubicin, Dexamethasone, Doxorubicin, Cytarabine, and Methotrexate-- have all been subject to shortages in the past, although only the final two listed appear to remain in jeopardy of running out of existing supplies.

Nonetheless, both are very important in the treatment of several blood cancers and diseases, leading the LLS to ask patients and health care providers alike to contact their Congressional representatives and urge them to demand increased production from the companies concerned in order to meet demand.
