And that category would be cancer books. I learned about Wendy Harpham from a cancer chat friend of mine, Mary. Wendy was a recurrent Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma survivor and an MD (but not an oncologist). She channeled her energy into some wonderful books on cancer - information everyone could use. The first was
Diagnosis: Cancer, Your Guide to the First Months of Healthy Survivorship. Then comes
When a Parent has Cancer: A Guide to Caring for your Children - a wonderful book that comes with a companion book - Becky and the Worry Cup. I ended up getting my daughters worry cups and it helped. Once I reached remission, I read
After Cancer, A Guide to your New Life. It helped me understand the feelings I was having.
I discovered today she published a new book last fall -
Happiness in a Storm: Facing Illness and Embracing Life as a Healthy Survivor (short titles need not apply :-). In this one, she shares here the guidelines she has developed for becoming a healthy survivor, a patient who gets good care and lives as fully as possible. This dovetails nicely with other recent books I've written about like Living with Lymphoma and The Patient from Hell.
If you like good authors, I invite you to discover Wendy Harpham.
