UK Soccer Star Bounces Back after BMT for NHL

British soccer star Lee Maddison was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL) last year. The 32 year old Gretna defender is a former Carlisle United favorite. In January he had a successful bone marrow transplant (BMT). The marrow came from his brother who was a perfect match (chances for a match from a sibling are one in four). Lee says "I was very lucky that I had my brother but I was the only person on my ward who had a sibling as a match."

The doctors have told Maddison in May he is in remission, no signs of cancer. He is now in training, hoping to return to Gretna next year. The Cumberland News
