Firefighters Help Colleague with Hodgkin's

Firefighter Michelle Alfano of Nutley, NJ was diagnosed in May with Hodgkin's Lymphoma. Her friends & coworkers in the Fire Department are holding a charity softball game to help pay for her treatment. Fire Chief Tom Peters says this softball game is the epitome of what it means to be a firefighter and to be part of the “family.”

“We feel that the fire department is a family, we are all brothers and sisters,” he said, adding that this is something you would do for someone in your blood family, and it is no different for the firefighter family. “She is very dedicated, aggressive,” he said, when it came to fighting blazes. In fact, he said with a smile, when she came down with her illness, the department had to slow her down.

You can read more and find out about fundraising for her treatment in the Nutley Journal.
