Beads Help Children Through Cancer Journey
A medical specialists created beads to mark moments in a child's journey through cancer:
"Cancer treatments are difficult for everyone, but they seem especially hard on young patients who are forced to give up part of their childhood.
The Nebraska Medical Center has come up with an engaging way for its pediatric cancer patients to track their treatments and, in many cases, better cope with what is happening to them.
The “My Journey Beads” effort was started by Debbie Wagers, a child life specialist at the medical center. Each child receives a bead for every step in his or her treatment. “Every little thing has a bead,” Wagers said."
