Prevention the theme for 2010 World Cancer Day
Launched by the International Union Against Cancer and supported by the World Health Organization, World Cancer Day 2010 stresses the role of cancer prevention with the theme "Cancer can be prevented too". Believing as many as two of every five cancers are preventable, the World Cancer Campaign is promoting five cancer-prevention measures:
- Stop tobacco use and avoid exposure to second-hand smoke
- Limit alcohol consumption
- Avoid excessive sun exposure
- Maintain a healthy weight, through eating healthily and exercising regularly
- Protect against cancer-causing infections
February 4 was first designated as World Cancer Day in 2006
