Laughter is the Best Medicine

Laughter, along with an active sense of humor, may help heal you.

According to some studies, laughter therapy may provide physical benefits, such as helping to boost the immune system and circulatory system, enhance oxygen intake, stimulate the heart and lungs, relax muscles throughout the body, trigger the release of endorphins (the body’s natural painkillers), ease digestion/soothes stomach aches, relieve pain, balance blood pressure and improve mental functions (i.e., alertness, memory, creativity).

In fact, there is a team of individuals especially dedicated to bringing laughter to cancer and other health support communities. They travel throughout the country presenting
the World Laughter Tour for patients and providers and families affected by cancer and other illnesses. Their goal is to bring the power of laughter into the mix of therapies helping to create a therapeutic alliance between mind and body, while introducing a program of life-affirming, enjoyable coping skills.
