My son was just diagnosed with Anaplastic Large Cell Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma. He's 9 years old & realitively healthy besides that. Can someone tell me what the next year or two will look like for him?

Can you be more specific

Can you be more specific about his diagnosis? Is it T-cell or B-cell? Have the doctors given you any indication of a treatment plan, and has he been properly staged? Finally, if you haven't gotten a second opinion on the pathology report that resulted in this dx, I would do so first and foremost, since mis-diagnosis in lymphoma is all too common.

Tcell. They are checking

Tcell. They are checking pathology for the 3rd time now at childrens here in Seattle. Im expecting to hear that today or tomorrow. As of now, the plan is to insert the port Monday & start treatments Wednesday. Oncologist says about a year of treatment.

Anaplastic large T-cell

Anaplastic large T-cell lymphoma (ALCL) is generally divided into two sub-classes, either ALK+ or ALK-, meaning either the cancer cells express a protein called anaplastic lymphoma kinase (ALK+), or they don't (ALK-). The prognosis is better for those with ALK+, but in either case the course generally involves some intense chemotherapy, and sometimes, a bone marrow transplant.

ALCL ALK+ is more common in boys your son's age, and according to at least one source, it has a relative cure rate of around 80%.
