is it common to have ABVD only, no radiation for stage II hodgkins?

I don't think it's uncommon. standard treatment for stage IIA Hodgkin's is combination chemotherapy like ABVD. it's up to the doctors to determine whether or not to include radiation. If in this stage they think there's a reason NOT to include it- maybe the patient won't tolerate it well - then they might extend the ABVD regimen a little.

Stage IIB Hodgkin's is typically treated with combination chemo as well, but radiation would probably be included if scans showed masses or bulky sites in the body- the kind of things radiation is good at shrinking.

Hey,

I had stage 2 HL and went through ABVD in 2006 and I never recieved radiation.
I think what they do is base it on the size and location of the mass that they're treating.

Good luck with everything!

I also had abvd chemo i didn,t do radation only because the chemo did damage to my lungs which was one of the areas they were going to raidate i am still in remission since 2005

Since the early 1970s, incidence rates for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma have nearly doubled. Improved diagnosis has contributed greatly to the increase as doctors better understand cancer of lymphocytes and can distinguish it from other diseases.
