I am preparing to start chemo for stage 2A agressive nodular sclerosing hodgkins. I will be recieving ABVD via a portacath. My Dr. has perscribed cumidin to avoid clotting. Is this protocol if I've never had a history of blood clotting. ?

I don't know if this is

I don't know if this is considered protocol perse, but the point of the coumadin (ie Warfarin) is to prevent a clot from blocking the portacath. It may have something to do with your age, or the results of other blood tests they've taken that indicate that coumadin would be a wise decision.

Also keep in mind that the ABVD regimen can screw with your body's ability to make platelets, which are necessary for your blood to clot, so the coumadin may be a safety measure to ensure that your blood's ability to clot isn't compromised entirely by the chemo regimen.
