I don't think SCTs are
I don't think SCTs are generally considered 'invasive' per se; it's a transplant, yes, but it's not major open heart surgery. That said, recovery time can be extensive-- 6 months or longer, especially if you have to stay on immunosuppressive drugs to keep your immune system from attacking the transplant.
It also depends on whether you get an autologous or allogenic transplant. with autologous, you get your own stem cells, meaning rejection isn't possible and recovery time, shorter. with allogenic, you get someone else's stem cells, meaning rejection is possible and it can be fatal.
so how does it affect your quality of life, well like I said recovery time is lengthy. however, it can also cure you of cancer, which positively affects your quality of life. but it's not a certain cure either.
STCs are serious enough that they are considered the last line of treatment, the last ditch effort to treat the patient.
