What is mantle cell lymphoma

John:
Mantle cell lymphoma is a somewhat rare type of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma, occurring in about 6% of the cases of NHL. It attacks the B-cell lymphocytes and is considered moderately aggressive to aggressive, meaning it grows rather quickly.

Cancer cells appear in the mantle zones surrounding the lymph nodes, spleen, bone marrow, blood, and gastrointestinal system. It gets the name 'mantle' from the area where the cancer cells appear; the mantle zone is an outer region that surrounds the so-called germinal centers in the cortex of lymph nodes. The cellular composition of the mantle zone is mostly of lymphocytes.
