This is my first treatment
This is my first treatment and I had a reaction to the Ritaxin, My ears tingled and ick in my throat. They gave me the chop and said they will try next time with the Ritaxin and if I react again they will have to give me another drug. Has this happened to anyone and was it only a first time deal? I appreciate the input
I have been cancer free for 5 months. I had stage 4 DLBC and Follicular non-hodgkins lymphoma. They discovered it in my hip after almost a year of hip pain. Then it finally showed a break and the doctors found it.
Dear Lori, I was diagnosed
Dear Lori,
I was diagnosed with stage I Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma B-Cell Diffuse and went through 3 rounds of R-Chop this summer (June-August 2010). Beside the ears tingled, rashes on face and head, I also had rigors and shortness of breath.... my infusions for each round took one week, first round = Rituxan the first two days and CHOP the next few days, second round = Rituxan first days CHOP second day and Rituxan third to fifth day, third round = CHOP first day and Rituxan second to fifthday. Pre-med (via IV) was Bynadryl 50 MG every 4 hours (my infusion took 9 hours a day) and Decadron (the steroid to block the allergy to the chemo) every 4 hours or as needed (when my rigor occur). Every day at the end of infusion I had to be assisted out to my car (I was totally out!). The key is the rate of infusion, supper slow and as for my case even the slow rate did not help much with the reaction! However, since I have friends who are oncologists and insist that Rituxan is a very IMPORTANT key player in non-Hodgkins's Lymphoma so they all advised me to stick with the regimen with a slow rate and a lot of pre-med.
I am done with the chemo part and now going through the radian part of my treatment. Over all it is doable (despite the numerous side effects of course!). Drink a lot of water and if you can not eat a lot consider taking supplement such as Ensure Plus or Boost because they give you energy to fight the chemo side effects! Stay strong and stay positive Lori, I believe you can do this and there is actually light at the end of the tunnel..
God Bless You,
Lori- They should have
Lori-
They should have determined whether your reaction was an allergic one or something less than that. If allergic, my understanding is there's not much to be done. If otherwise, you can receive tylenol and benadryl prior to the rituximab infusion in order to prevent the reaction from occurring again, or at least occurring to the extent that it's a problem.

Thank you guys for
Thank you guys for responding. I am getting reading for my second treatment and am going to insist on the Rituxan no matter what. I also found out I have follicular lymphoma as well as the DLBC. Not great news. any comments about this? Thank you Lori

Thank you Allison. Prayer and miracles are what really works. The second treatment I didn't have any sides just after. I got an infection from somewhere and thought ai as going to die. It's a tough road and especially for the families. My heart goes out to you. I see waht my husband goes through with me. I tried the City of Hope they wanted a 1000.00 just to see me and my insurance won't cover me there. That would have been my first choice. Keep in touch. lorilarson16@yahoo.com

Dear Lorilarson, You are in
Dear Lorilarson,
You are in my prayer! I am very happy for you that the second treatment went well. Hang in there because you are never alone... God is with you every single nasty second of this journey and side effect from treatments will get lessen as your body gets use to them. I did get second opinion from City of Hope (of course it cost me both arms and legs) but with all the side effects I've gone through it is less scary to actually get advice from the physician at COH (after the initial visit the oncologist gave me her email and I've asked many questions out of paranoid and such.....we stay in touch and developed a very good relationship!!) the doctors at COH are very kind and understanding, even though they know you might not get treatment from COH they still care for your well being.
Have a blessing day and best of luck with your next round.
God Bless You Lori
Hi Hope...Thank you for your
Hi Hope...Thank you for your prayers. That is the best medicine anyone can ask for. I am not looking forward to Wednesday. Third round but half over. The thing that bothers me the most is that you see it reoccurring in so many people. I am glad you have such a great relationship with the COH doc. I have a great relationship with my primary and that makes a huge difference. Please keep in touch. Blessings Lori
