Can you clarify your

Can you clarify your question? Do you mean the risks of developing HL following an organ transplant? or being treated for HL and needing an organ transplant?

I'm sorry, I guess that

I'm sorry, I guess that Wasn't very clear, but nothing lately has been. He has Had two organ transplants, and was recently diagnosed with HL. So there are a Million factors it seems like, none good, and just as many different answers that we've gotten. Just trying to gain some clarity.
Thanks Ross for asking.

Do you know if he picked up

Do you know if he picked up Hodgkin's as a result of one of the transplants? Wouldn't be the first time that a donor unknowingly had cancer and his/her organs went to patients who consequently developed cancer as well. It's very rare -- the United Network for Organ Sharing says that there have been like 64 cases of cancer that could be linked directly to the actual transplant between 1994 and 2006, out of 230,000 transplants. Discover magazine recounts one particularly tragic case HERE.

At any rate, perhaps you've already seen this paper published in the Annals of Oncology that seems to suggest that given the limited data, treatment for people with HL who have transplants in their past should be approached no differently than if they had never had transplants since it's proven to be just as successful.

Ross, he's 14 years+ with the transplants, and the HL just recently showed up, so I wouldnt think, given that info, that he would have gotten it from them. Thank tou for the references & info, it helped alot. I sincerely appreciate it.

14 years old, two

14 years old, two transplants, now hodgkin's? tough kid. these were solid organ transplants for him? i'm sure you've been told that the standard treatment regimens for pediatric HL have the potential to result in cardiopulmonary toxicity, and that chest or abdominal irradiation presents a similar threat, regardless of the transplants. At any rate I hope you're getting reliable guidance.

I'm sorry Ross. No, the

I'm sorry Ross. No, the Hubby has had the transplants for 14+ years. That's why I was saying I didnt think he would have gotten the HL from the transplants. No, it's not my child that has all the ailments. Sorry for the confusion.

no problem. regarding the risks he's facing, there is a prognostic index used by some doctors to try and determine his odds of survival, relapse, etc, you can find it at Wikipedia. It doesn't take into account things like transplants but it looks at I think seven factors. It's a start.

Good luck
Ross
