No. There are things you can do, diets you can undertake, that can lower your risk for developing Hodgkin's or any cancer, but otherwise this cancer is not 100 percent preventable. In order for it to be preventable, we would have to know what causes it to begin with, and that is a big unknown.

No, I'm not a doctor or health professional, but I know a bit about Hodgkin's, I have a lot of resources, I'm an associate editor-in-chief of the Lymphoma page at Wikidoc, and I'd be happy to help you with your research project.

Ross, my son has just finished treatment for Hodgkins. Can you link me up with diet, supplements? Thanks.

I can try and point you in some positive directions. Aside from simply eating a balanced diet good for any child his age, there are oncology nutritionists who believe that, depending on the treatments, there are better choices than others.

You can try submitting this question to the Nutrition Hotline at the American Institute for Cancer Research.

You can also do a Specialist Locator Search at the Commission on Dietetic Registration, which certifies oncology nutritionists across the country.

Having spoken to an oncology nutritionist recently, it's clear they have a very good idea of the right diet for cancer patients before, during and after treatment, and many specialize in specific cancers, and therefore specific treatments (i.e. dietary response to X cycles of ABVD plus radiation).

There's a page on essential nutrients at Supportgroups.com, as well as information on finding an oncology nutritionist.

I'm trying to arrange for more of this lymphoma-specific kind of information to appear both at this site and SupportGroups.com.
