Maybe, maybe not. This may just be an issue of semantics. Normally Reed-Sternberg cells would be the hallmark of HL, and in 95 % of HL cases they indeed are. However, in lymphocyte predominant HL (a far less common subtype of HL) the 'tumor cells' are called LP cells, so a pathology report that says no RS cells are present doesn't exclude the possibility that it's Hodgkin's. Does that make sense?

thanks for your response. since my original post, we have rec'd the immunohistochemistry analysis and have learned it is a Diffuse large B-cell lymphoma. we start chemo next week and are hoping for the best.
