Learned today that I have follicular lymphoma. The abdominal/pelvic CT scan showed two enlarged nodes. One was removed last week for biopsy. Does anyone know if NHL can be restricted to the groin area only OR will they find others in the upper body?"

Yes, lymphoma can be, well, not "restricted" but localized to just one nodal area--chest, abdomen, groin, neck, armpit. It can begin in any one of these sites and if discovered early, may only affect that region. In this case the staging would be either I or II.

It's not however common for follicular lymphoma to be found in such an early stage. This is because most people are asymptomatic until they reach stage III or IV, when symptoms suddenly become noticeable. This doesn't mean it can't be discovered early, it just means it generally isn't.

As you probably know, indolent lymphomas like FL aren't considered curable but they're so slow that they're highly treatable and often, people don't need immediate treatment.

Since the early 1970s, incidence rates for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma have nearly doubled. Improved diagnosis has contributed greatly to the increase as doctors better understand cancer of lymphocytes and can distinguish it from other diseases.
