Can you really be diagnosed with Hodgkins and Non Hodgkins at the same time?

Yes, I was diagnosed with both Non-Hodgkins and Hodgkins at the same time Feb 1, 2007

Hi Classy11,

I hope that this post finds you well and and good health. After just battling stage 3 non-hodgkins lymphoma (8 rounds of R-CHOP)I have 2 remaining cancerous lymph nodes and I was being prepared for a stem cell transplant. Upon closer inspection of my case file, the patholgist at the transplant center is now thinking (or sees the potential) for evidence that indicates one of the 2 cancerous lymph nodes is hodgkins lymphoma.

Can you tell me what your course of treatment was?

Eileen

My doctor has told me that I have signs of both HL and NHL. I was diagnosied with Stage IV Grade 2 follicular lymphoma and am being treated with Ritixan(sp?) Could you tell me what was you symptoms or how they diagnosed you with both and what treatment you are currently taking?

Sometimes I get so confused with what the doctor tells me and what he tends to leave out.

J

Hi J,

I had no symptoms when I was diagnosed. They caught the enlarged lymph nodes during a routine x-ray of my upper chest. Late December 2009, I had open surgery to remove one of the remaining lymph nodes and it was in fact LP hodgkins lymphoma. I was treated at the beginning for non-hodgkins and now hodgkins. Go figure!

I will be admitted to the hospital in the next few days for my transplant. I can't wait to get it over with.

Take care.

Thanks and good luck. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Since the early 1970s, incidence rates for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma have nearly doubled. Improved diagnosis has contributed greatly to the increase as doctors better understand cancer of lymphocytes and can distinguish it from other diseases.
