daughter with swollen nodes

Hello- Just wondering about the first symptoms....The other night my 11yr old daughter showed me a pea sized lump on the front of her neck right in the middle. Yesterday I asked the school nurse to take a look at it...she said I definatly needed to have my daughters doctor to see it...so I brought her in the same day. Unfortunatly her regular doc was out, and she had to see another one who happend to have just graduated from med school. The doc poked around and found some others swollen also. The front node had never hurt, but now its sore because two nurses and the doc poked it so much. The doc said they were probably swollen because my daughter was fighting a cold or something...(my daughter doesn't have a cold) After reading some stuff on swollen nodes and possible causes I read about Hodgkins/Lymphoma symptoms and the one about itching alarmed me because my daughter is always itchy- I should buy stock in Benydril because she takes it so often. Should I wait two weeks to see if its any bigger like the doc recomended or should I take her back sooner when her regular doctor is in? I didnt mention the itching yesterday because I didn't think of it being connected and she didn't ask about any other symptoms. My daughter also has a "cramp" on her side that comes and goes. Can anyone describe some symptoms their kids had? Thanks-
Hello. First I want to tell you that the likelihood of having a swollen lymph node lead to lymphoma is somewhat rare. There are so many reasons why a lymph node can be swollen. Usually it is an infection. If the node has continued to grow, is painless and hard like a stone, then that could mean that it is malignant. Other symptoms that can possible signal lymphoma are Weight loss, nightsweats, fever and chills. I think it is important to see your doctor and let him know everything is going. There are a number of tests available (such as testing the lymph fluid, scans, etc.) so be open with the doctor and don't be afraid to inquire about these as well. Like I said, there are so many reasons that a lymph node will be swollen and lymphoma is rare. It is still best to be safe. Take care:)

Since the early 1970s, incidence rates for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma have nearly doubled. Improved diagnosis has contributed greatly to the increase as doctors better understand cancer of lymphocytes and can distinguish it from other diseases.
